Back to the classroom.....

My, how classroom spaces have evolved in the last thirty years.
When I left teaching to raise a family, we had just gained the use of one Apple PC in our rural school classroom. Now, students may have their own devices in the form of iPads, teachers are using Interactive White Boards and there are connections being made to other educators and classrooms globally at a 'click'.
Not a piece of chalk or a blackboard in sight!
Open learning classrooms were appearing back then too, although I never had the opportunity to observe teaching and learning in such a setting. It was controversial then, and may still be so now if not utilised for their intended purpose. Inner city and some suburban schools were closed as the local demographic changed.

A snap shot of recent readings....... and notes still in the format of my comfort zone!
Proposals for new schools in the expanding metropolitan area are always on the priority list for their local communities. With the recent trends of higher density living and an ever growing inner city population of apartment dwellers that now include many growing families, new schools are back on the agenda and 'vertical' schools are opening. Exciting opportunities for new learning spaces within close proximity to Melbourne's galleries, museums, art and sporting venues await future students.
